Afghanistan’s 2023 ODI World Cup Squad: The Afghanistan Cricket Board has unveiled its 15-member squad for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup, set to take place in India next month. This selection notably differs from the team that competed in the recent Asia Cup. Notably, the inclusion of fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq, who represents the Lucknow Super Giants, marks a significant addition to Afghanistan’s World Cup roster. Joining him is Gujarat’s talented spinner, Noor Ahmed.
However, one prominent player’s absence is quite striking, as all-rounder Karim Janat, who made a return to the team after a six-year hiatus for the 2023 Asia Cup, has not secured a spot in the World Cup squad. Likewise, all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has been designated as a reserve player, not part of the core 15-member World Cup lineup.
The return of Naveen Ul Haq, a medium pacer who plies his trade with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, is expected to bolster Afghanistan’s World Cup team. His mastery of slow and cut balls could pose a significant challenge for batsmen on the Indian pitches.
Afghanistan’s World Cup squad prominently features four spinners, namely Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, and Noor Ahmed. In addition to Naveen Ul Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqui, the squad boasts two key fast bowlers. Providing support in the bowling department are Abdullah Omarzai and Abdul Rehman.
